Categories are groups that help us organize things based on how they’re alike.
If you are at school, think of how classes are based on how old you are. If you are in second grade, most students are going to be seven or eight years old.
Imagine sorting your toys into different piles based on what they can do.
Maybe you put your Hot Wheels and trains together because they have wheels and you put your dinosaurs and animals together because they have legs and a tail.
By sorting things into categories, it helps us find them easily, just like organizing your toys into different bins or shelves at home!
